LEON EMANUEL BLANCK
Be here. In this. Clawing back to self. Scrupulous skin feeder. Put on. Give up. pay out.
Our physiology is centered around the body. Its anatomy, studied for centuries, constantly evolving and shape-shifting in its perpetual migration. In a stasis of silent contemplation, it is at its most emphatic. To clad our interior shell by layering us for any exchange with the exterior; one must be patient. Patience here means the dissection of the human form, in all its splendor and fascinating flaws.
In a series of conducted experiments, a method was developed, in order to best bridge tradition, form and function. This is ANFACTUOUS DISTORTION, a process of time, of pure will. Through the construction of body-sculptures, focussing on self-drapery, while in constant motion, patterns are hand-drawn. Each individual line is the result of the organic fabric flow during its inception. During the assembly phase, any symmetry is abandoned, as is the normalized categorization of upper and lower halves. the resulting construction is a purist manifest of deep technical sartoria through extrapolated patterns; in which no element is repeated twice.
The cohesive finished article, appears both solemn and sober, its complexity only apparent in the meticulous bends, applied cuts and direct artisans markings. Measured by controlled anarchy, this is an atelier of seamless body-casts, propelled into being by the diligent hands of their maker. Worn by you, relentlessly, each garment comes to live, congealing with the body, as a second skin: real and undoubtedly human. In this moment it becomes definite.
